Willis creek slot canyon waterfall. The willis creek trail offers an easy hike for people of all skill levels to experience and marvel at some pretty amazing slot canyons. Below the waterfall are the most scenic sections of the trail. The canyon is narrow, but never a real slot, probably around six feet wide at its narrowest.

We were in absolute awe the entire hike and from then on we were hooked on slot canyons. The trailhead is located about 9 miles from cannonville on the skutumpah road (blm 500) road. We started in cannonville, utah and drove south on cottonwood canyon road for nearly 3 miles.

It’s easy to get to and, even though it requires driving on a dirt road, a standard automobile should have no problems. We were told we would see skutumpah road when we saw red picnic tables and windmills. The waterfall at the beginning was pretty but yes it is small.

Upon entering the canyon, the walls quickly narrow and become taller to form a slot. The 2 year old hiked a good portion because he was loving walking in the water. I saw multiple families with young children, probably around the age of 5 or possibly younger doing this as well as older kids and teens.

Willis creek is a slot canyon that follows a small stream and never gets too narrow. As the name implies the trail follows the creek, your feet will get wet but it is generally only an inch or two deep. It’s about 23 miles from bryce canyon national park , 42ish from escalante, and about 10 miles from kodachrome basin state park.

About 3/4 a mile in, a side canyon comes in from the left. Here’s a trail map that shows you the narrows through willis creek. Although road conditions can add a degree of difficulty at times, the slot canyon is easily accessed:

We hiked with an 11, 10, 7 and 2 year old without any difficulty. The skutumpah road is highlighted with a red line. And, unlike other slot canyons.

Both the turnaround point and the parking area are clearly marked. The 3 mile round trip hike is marked with a purple line. From the trailhead (see directions for finding the trail below), cross the road, or simply walk down the road to where you see the water flowing, and start along the creek.

Willis creek slot canyon is about 6 miles down skutumpah road. This hike is perfect for families and anyone looking for a mostly flat slot canyon hike. Of all the slot canyons that we’ve been to in the southwest (and there have been dozens), this one, by far, gives you the most bang for your buck.

My socks never got wet on this hike. The trailhead for the willis creek slot canyons is located along skutumpah road. Willis creek trail is an easy hike and a great way to escape the utah summer heat.

Hiking willis creek slot canyon is easy. Follow skutumpah road for approximately 6 miles. In about 2.8 miles, you’ll come upon two dirt roads on the right.

This is a good turn around spot or visitors can continue down the willis creek. Definitely a highly recommended slot from me. You can actually google map to the trail head, however make sure that you google 'willis creek slot canyon trailhead' and not just 'willis.

Once you get to cannonville from wherever you’re coming from, turn down kodachrome road (towards kodachrome basin state park) which will eventually. Love that there is a small trickle of water that makes it interesting, but not enough that you have to get your feet wet. The willis creek trailhead is much closer to the ne end, near the town of cannonville, ut.
